Retro Vibes and Friendly Rivalry: Auckland’s First Inter-Hotel Ping-Pong Tournament

M Social Hotel Auckland proudly hosted the very first Inter-Hotel Ping-Pong Tournament, bringing together teams from M Social Hotel Auckland, Grand Millennium Auckland, Copthorne Hotel Auckland City, and the Millennium Hotels and Resorts New Zealand Corporate Office. The night was packed with friendly rivalry, team spirit, and plenty of laughs, all wrapped in a vibrant ’70s theme that took everyone back to the disco era.

It was a wonderful example of what happens when colleagues from across properties step away from daily operations and connect through light-hearted competition and shared fun.

A Night of Retro Style and Competitive Spirit

Every team arrived ready to impress, not just with their ping-pong skills, but with their bold retro outfits. Flared trousers, groovy prints, oversized sunglasses, and disco-era accessories filled the room with colour and creativity. The commitment to the theme was remarkable, and one standout participant stole the spotlight, earning the title of Best Dressed and taking home a fun surprise prize.

The ’70s theme added an extra layer of joy to the evening, transforming a simple ping-pong tournament into a full celebration of creativity, nostalgia, and team spirit.

Electric Atmosphere, Genuine Connection

The atmosphere throughout the evening was electric. Cheers echoed around the room as teams battled it out at the tables, whilst the sidelines were filled with laughter, support, and plenty of mid-winter warmth. Colleagues who might not usually work together found themselves cheering for the same team, celebrating great shots, and enjoying the energy of friendly competition.

For many participants, the tournament provided a rare opportunity to meet colleagues from other Auckland properties, build relationships across teams, and enjoy a relaxed setting where work titles and departments faded into the background.

Building Connections Across Properties

What made the Inter-Hotel Ping-Pong Tournament special was not just the competition, it was the connections it created. Colleagues from M Social Hotel Auckland, Grand Millennium Auckland, Copthorne Hotel Auckland City, and the Corporate Office came together, stepped away from their day-to-day roles, and enjoyed an evening of shared experience.

These cross-property connections strengthen the broader Millennium Hotels and Resorts community in Auckland. When team members from different properties know each other, collaborate, and support one another, it creates a network of relationships that benefits everyone. The tournament was a reminder that we are all part of the same family, working towards the same goals.

Setting the Tone for More to Come

The success of this inaugural event has set the tone for many more inter-hotel activities to come. The enthusiasm, creativity, and positive energy demonstrated by all participants show that there’s genuine appetite for these kinds of gatherings.

Future inter-hotel events will build on this foundation, creating more opportunities for colleagues across Auckland properties to connect, compete, and celebrate together. Whether through sports, themed competitions, or social gatherings, these events strengthen team spirit and foster a sense of belonging that extends beyond individual properties.

A Night to Remember

The first Inter-Hotel Ping-Pong Tournament was a resounding success: a night filled with retro style, friendly rivalry, genuine laughter, and meaningful connection. It demonstrated what’s possible when we create space for colleagues to come together, have fun, and build relationships that make our work more enjoyable and our community stronger.

As we celebrate 30 years of Millennium Hotels and Resorts and look to the future, events like this remind us that we’re stronger together. Thank you to everyone who participated, dressed up, competed, and brought their energy to the evening. Here’s to many more inter-hotel celebrations that bring our Auckland family closer together.

Hosting the Ambassador of Indonesia at The Buffet Restaurant

M Hotel Singapore City Centre had the honour of welcoming the Ambassador of Indonesia, Deputy Ambassador, and the ladies from KCBI Singapore, led by Ibu Desy Windanarni Wilson, for a delightful Peranakan lunch at The Buffet Restaurant.

The afternoon was filled with vibrant flavours and warm company as guests enjoyed the rich, aromatic, and soulful dishes of Peranakan culture. It was a powerful reminder that hospitality is about more than just serving food—it’s about creating a welcoming space for connection, whether for casual afternoons or the most distinguished occasions.

Seeing The Buffet Restaurant become a space for such meaningful connection over a shared meal is truly inspirational. Moments like these demonstrate the importance of the work the team does every day.

Official Partner Hotel for World Aquatics Championships 2025

When Singapore hosted the World Aquatics Championships for the very first time, from 11 July to 3 August 2025, M Hotel Singapore City Centre stood at the heart of the action as an official partner hotel for the prestigious event.

Selected through a competitive bidding process open to all hotels in Singapore, M Hotel Singapore City Centre emerged as a standout choice. Its strategic location in the Central Business District, spacious room inventory, and strong track record in hosting international guests made it the ideal home base for elite athletes competing in swimming, diving, water polo, and more.

In total, M Hotel Singapore City Centre hosted over 200 athletes from China, South Korea, El Salvador, Antigua, and Bahrain, including the entire China and Korean national teams throughout the competition period. Behind the scenes, the operations team worked tirelessly to ensure a seamless and comfortable stay for every guest.

The success of WAC 2025 has cemented M Hotel Singapore City Centre’s reputation as a trusted partner for large-scale international events. The team brought the “Millennium Experience” to life on the world stage, demonstrating the property’s capability to deliver under the highest-profile circumstances.

Culinary Talent Shines at 2025 Sizzle Showdown

The 2025 Sizzle Showdown, Eatery Edition brought together 11 distinguished eateries and 13 talented chefs, each competing to create innovative dishes featuring U.S. poultry. The competition celebrated culinary creativity and showcased the unique styles of each chef before a panel of esteemed judges from Singapore’s vibrant F&B scene.

M Hotel Singapore City Centre was proudly represented by Chef De Partie Lee Cheng Hui of Café 2000 and Demi Chef Elay of The Buffet Restaurant. Under the mentorship of their seasoned guides, both chefs delivered their dishes with exceptional flair and confidence, truly exemplifying the spirit of the competition.

At M Hotel Singapore City Centre, nurturing the personal and professional growth of the team is a priority.

This invaluable experience has further fuelled the property’s commitment to developing culinary talents and empowering them to reach new heights in their careers.

Proud Moments That Define Excellence

These three moments—hosting distinguished diplomatic guests, serving as an official partner hotel for a major international sporting event, and showcasing culinary talent on a competitive stage—reflect the breadth and depth of what M Hotel Singapore City Centre achieves.

Each occasion required different strengths: cultural sensitivity and warmth for the Ambassador’s visit, operational precision and scale for the World Aquatics Championships, and creativity and mentorship for the Sizzle Showdown. The team rose to meet each challenge with professionalism, dedication, and genuine hospitality.

As we celebrate 30 years of Millennium Hotels and Resorts and look to the future, M Hotel Singapore City Centre exemplifies what it means to deliver excellence across every dimension of hospitality.
