At Copthorne Hotel Slough-Windsor, the annual Halloween Pumpkin Carving Competition has become a beloved tradition, and this year’s event was the most spirited yet. The competition brought together all departments in a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and festive fun that delighted guests and team members alike.
On 27 October, the HR team distributed pumpkins to all departments, giving everyone three days to plan, carve, and perfect their creations. The challenge was simple: create the most impressive pumpkin design whilst juggling daily responsibilities.
Team members enthusiastically dedicated time between their tasks to bring imaginative designs to life. Some went for classic jack-o’-lantern faces, others created intricate patterns, and a few pushed the boundaries with ambitious artistic visions. The energy and creativity across departments was palpable.
On 30 October, the beautifully carved pumpkins were displayed in the lobby, transforming the space into a vibrant and festive Halloween showcase. The Front Office team prepared voting slips, whilst the F&B team arranged an eye-catching display table that highlighted each pumpkin’s unique character.
The display created a wonderful atmosphere for guests, who were invited to cast their votes for the best pumpkin throughout the day. Participation was lively, with guests engaging enthusiastically in the competition and admiring the creativity on show.
When the votes were tallied, the Kitchen team clinched first place with an impressive 42 votes, demonstrating that their creativity extends well beyond culinary excellence. The Finance team secured second place, whilst the F&B team took third.
Winners were rewarded with boxes of chocolates, adding a sweet finish to the competition. But beyond the prizes, the real reward was the joy, laughter, and team spirit that the event generated across the property.
What makes the Halloween Pumpkin Carving Competition special isn’t just the creative output, it is the way it brings people together. All departments participated, making the event truly inclusive and cross-functional. Team members who might not usually collaborate found themselves admiring each other’s work, sharing carving tips, and celebrating together.
For guests, the competition created a memorable experience that added warmth and personality to their stay. For the team, it provided a moment to step away from daily operations, express creativity, and connect with colleagues in a lighthearted, festive way.
Events like the Halloween Pumpkin Carving Competition remind us that hospitality is built on moments of joy, connection, and shared celebration.
