Some bonds transcend words. The relationship between humans and dogs is one of them, built on trust, companionship and an instinctive understanding that needs no explanation. In collaboration with RICH ART, Millennium Hotel Taichung presents a solo sculpture exhibition by Taiwanese sculptor Poren Huang in the hotel’s elegant lobby, bringing art into everyday life and creating a dialogue between contemporary art and hospitality.
Huang has long explored human emotions and relationships through his expressive animal sculptures. His works have been exhibited in New York, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and beyond, earning recognition from collectors worldwide for their distinctive character, emotion and subtle humour.
Familiar Moments, Cast in Bronze and Steel
Inspired by his long-standing companionship with Taiwan’s native dogs, Huang observes their gestures, personalities and expressions, transforming familiar moments into sculpture. Working in bronze and stainless steel, he uses clean lines and dynamic forms to capture the distinctive character and spirit of each subject.
Beneath these playful forms lies a thoughtful exploration of humanity. I’m Not Happy Now, a nearly three-metre-long sculpture, captures a dog shaking its head and kicking its legs in a humorous expression of frustration. The work reflects Huang’s philosophy of looking forward rather than dwelling on the past.
